This is just something that came out as I stared at the computer for hours. Okay, I was watching the L Word, but still....this was what I wrote.

Title: Homecoming
Rating: PG
Author: me
Pairing: Sam/Janet
Disclaimer: Not mine!

The house was dark when the silver Volvo pulled into the driveway. The driver knew her partner and daughter had gone to bed hours ago, but she had to see them. She felt the compulsion to burst through the front door, gather them up in her arms and never let go. Because the world had almost ended. Again.

Taking a deep, calming breath, Samantha Carter slowly pulled the key from the ignition and opened the door, blinking a little at the lights that illuminated. How long had been since she had seen her family? A week, maybe? It felt like years to her, especially after all the things she had done to ensure there would still be a home to come back to when the crisis was over.

She deliberately slowed her steps and quietly slipped into the house, closing the door behind her. Familiar smells greeted her as she leaned against the wall and closed her eyes, relishing in the feeling of being home once again. Finally she pushed away and began ascending the stairs, each one becoming more difficult to steady her pace. Once at the top, she paused at the first bedroom, glancing at the pre-teen girl curled up on the bed within. Sam smiled and moved onto the next door.

Opening it hesitantly, she moved quickly inside, the only sound the soft step of her boots on the carpet and the click of the door behind her. She turned and stopped, her eyes meeting the sleepy ones of the woman seated upright on the bed. Janet smiled softly and opened her arms in silent greeting.

Sam nearly ran to them, collapsing onto the bed and snuggling within her partner's arms. “How did you know I was coming? I didn't even know I would be home tonight,” she asked, feeling the tears that began to well up in her eyes.

“I didn't,” Janet whispered in return, her hold tightening around the woman she loved. “But did you really think you could sneak back into bed without me noticing?”

Pulling back slightly to look in Janet's face, Sam shook her head and gently caressed her partner's cheek with her finger. “I didn't want to wake you,” she answered tenderly.

“Nonsense,” Janet replied, pulling her back into her arms. “I wouldn't have missed this for the world.”

Because the world had almost ended. Again.
How many times did Sam and SG1 have to keep the world from ending? Perfect.

Janet smiled softly and opened her arms in silent greeting.
That alone would make everything worthwhile! *grin*

Thanks for sharing this.
